Educators first
Every prototype assumes qualified teachers remain central. Technology augments professional judgment; it does not substitute for certification, relationships or school governance.
About the lab
SmartLearnAI Co Inc. operates an education innovation lab in Nanaimo, British Columbia, where educators, researchers and engineers co-design synthetic and immersive AI learning experiences.
Letter from the lab
Dear colleagues and partners,
When we founded SmartLearnAI Co, we rejected two easy paths: selling generic online courses to anyone with a credit card, and positioning ourselves as yet another marketing agency wrapping AI buzzwords around unrelated services. Neither path serves Canadian educators wrestling with real questions about simulation, agency and classroom culture.
Instead we opened a lab on Uplands Drive where prototypes are built in daylight. Faculty sit beside engineers. Ethical review is scheduled, not improvised. Virtual assistants are designed with educator override at every decision point. Synthetic environments are bounded, documented and tested with partner schools before they reach learners.
Our team combines instructional design, learning sciences, software engineering and community partnership experience. We publish what we learn, including failures. We welcome district observers, university researchers and independent critics because credibility matters more than hype.
If you are looking for a vendor who promises to replace teachers or guarantee accreditation through AI alone, we are not that partner. If you want to explore the future of learning with humility, rigour and imagination, we would be honoured to host you in Nanaimo.
Warm regards,
The SmartLearnAI Co team
Lab principles
Every prototype assumes qualified teachers remain central. Technology augments professional judgment; it does not substitute for certification, relationships or school governance.
Synthetic worlds have clear edges: defined learning objectives, documented data practices and exit criteria before classroom exposure.
Partners receive architecture notes, ethical review summaries and pilot outcomes suitable for board and public scrutiny.
We align with PIPEDA, provincial privacy frameworks and BC education community norms. Hosting options emphasise Canadian and North American infrastructure.
We collaborate with Vancouver Island school districts, post-secondary faculties and independent researchers who share our commitment to ethical experimentation. Partnerships are invitation-based and documented publicly where appropriate.
