FAQ

Lab questions answered clearly

Direct answers for educators, district leaders and research partners evaluating synthetic and immersive AI learning from our Nanaimo innovation lab.

Lab FAQ session with partner school representatives

We publish this FAQ because clarity prevents wasted time. SmartLearnAI Co is frequently compared to online course marketplaces, marketing agencies and enterprise AI vendors. We are none of those. We are a British Columbia education innovation lab focused on prototypes, ethical review and partner school trials.

Read the sections below for details on teacher roles, data practices, residency structure and what we explicitly do not promise. For programme pricing and timelines, visit Programmes or Contact.

Is SmartLearnAI Co a generic online course provider or marketing agency?

No. SmartLearnAI Co is an AI education innovation lab headquartered in Nanaimo, British Columbia. We develop synthetic learning environments, immersive classroom prototypes and virtual education assistants in collaboration with educators. We are not a marketing agency, web design studio, generic course marketplace or corporate AI consultancy without an education mission. We do not sell pre-packaged credential programmes, run third-party advertising campaigns or resell unrelated consulting hours under an ed-tech label.

Do SmartLearnAI simulations or virtual assistants replace qualified teachers?

No. Our prototypes are designed to support and augment qualified educators, not replace them. Virtual assistants scaffold formative feedback and accessibility supports while preserving educator override at every decision point. Synthetic environments provide bounded practice spaces; they do not substitute for certified instruction, human relationships, school governance or professional judgment in the classroom. Partner school trials require facilitator presence and clear escalation paths to human staff.

What is a lab residency at SmartLearnAI Co?

A lab residency is a structured engagement, typically eight to twelve weeks under programme SLA-601, where cross-disciplinary teams work inside our Uplands Drive studio. Residents co-design prototypes, participate in ethical review workshops, document architecture decisions and prepare materials for partner school trials. Residencies include scheduled faculty collaboration, open documentation milestones and a final presentation suitable for district leadership.

How do partner school pilots work?

Pilots begin with scoping: learning objectives, ethical boundaries, accessibility requirements and success criteria documented before build work. SmartLearnAI Co delivers a bounded prototype, trains facilitators, supports observation protocols and collects structured feedback. Pilots do not guarantee adoption, accreditation or specific learning outcome metrics. Districts retain authority over classroom deployment and data governance.

Does SmartLearnAI Co guarantee job placement or accreditation?

No. We do not guarantee employment, professional licensure, third-party accreditation or universal adoption results. Prototypes and pilot programmes are illustrative research and development outputs. Any credentials or certifications remain the responsibility of accredited institutions, not our lab.

How does SmartLearnAI Co handle student data and PIPEDA?

We follow PIPEDA principles: accountability, consent, limiting collection, safeguards and individual access. Student data in pilots is processed only under written agreements with educational organisations that remain data controllers. Our privacy policy describes retention, subprocessors and cross-border safeguards. Contact [email protected] for privacy officer enquiries.

Can we visit the Nanaimo lab before committing to a programme?

Yes. Lab tour requests are welcomed via our contact form. Tours typically include a walkthrough of prototype environments, an overview of ethical review practices and a conversation about programme fit. Tours do not constitute binding contracts or guaranteed pilot slots.

What technologies power your synthetic learning environments?

We combine custom simulation tooling, knowledge graph interfaces, spatial learning prototypes and carefully bounded large-language-model integrations. Technology choices vary by programme. We document architecture, data flows and known limitations for partner review rather than presenting black-box solutions.

Do you licence software as a perpetual SaaS product?

Our primary model is lab programmes, residencies and scoped services — not perpetual per-seat SaaS licensing. Some prototypes may inform future tooling, but we are not a generic SaaS vendor without an education mission. Engagements emphasise co-design, documentation and pilot support.

Who should contact SmartLearnAI Co?

School district innovation leads, faculty researchers, instructional designers, post-secondary labs and education nonprofits exploring ethical AI in learning. We are less suited to organisations seeking marketing services, unrelated IT outsourcing or turnkey online course catalogues.
